Free online event offers help to those thinking of starting a business

Updated: Apr 21, 2021

Bristol-based Enterprise Orchard are running a free online event on the 28th April to provide advice to those thinking of starting a business. The event, hosted by the journalist, Dan Martin, aims to offer some insight to those who have a business idea but are apprehensive about taking the first step.

Ollie Collard, Enterprise Orchard founder and Virgin Startup advisor, says:

“It’s clear that the pandemic has had a major impact on how people think about work and the work/life balance. Many of us have had our first taste of what it could be like to work more flexibly, enabling us to spend more time with our families. For some it’s been an epiphany.”

He goes on to say:

“Unfortunately, Covid-19 has also resulted in a sharp rise in unemployment due to redundancies caused by the pandemic. Although a proportion of these people have found new work, LinkedIn is full of stories from those that have had to take less skilled, lower paid work to make ends meet.”

The free online event aims to help people who want to take back control of their careers by working for themselves. It aims to address concerns identified in a recent Innovate UK survey, which found that common barriers to starting a business include a lack of business knowledge, not having the money or the right networks in place.

Stacy Munro, co-founder of Myrror, beauty App, will be one of the speakers at the event and knows first-hand, what it takes to start a business during a pandemic:

“Launching during lockdown was tough and very isolating at times. But through Enterprise Orchard, I’ve received not only expert advice but have become part of a close-knit group of founders who have provided each other with that much needed peer support”
